13th Annual Educational Advising Fair a Success

The biggest day of the year for the Educational Advising Center (EAC) was October 10th--the day on which the thirteenth annual Educational Fair was held. Long preparation and hard work by EAC staff were rewarded with a successful and well-attended event.
Each year many students, researchers and academic institutions participate in the Educational Fair. It is the biggest opportunity for the EAC to disseminate information about its services, research opportunities, fellowships, scholarships, and exchange programs. In addition, thirty-one vendors in the field of education presented their programs and opportunities.

Among the guests were Armenian and US-based organizations focused on education and training, US, European and Armenian universities, as well as English-language tutorial services. The opening remark was made by Thomas Mittnacht, Public Affairs Officer, U.S. Embassy, Marine Ghevondyan, Head of the Information Analyses Department at MoE , Elvira Dana, Country Director, American Councils for International Education, and Gayane Grigoryan, Senior Educational Advisor, EAC.
Fair participants were given the opportunity to take Computer-Based and Internet- Based TOEFL sample tests and by doing so become familiar with the most common language tests used in the US college admissions process. The video presentation helped participants to learn more about a selection of American universities and colleges. Among the guest-speakers at a question-and-answer session about studying in the US were the alumni of US Government sponsored programs (FLEX, UGrad, Muskie, JFDP) and students who had individually applied to US institutions.

Additionally, Gayane Grigoryan, Senior Educational Advisor at the EAC, delivered a lecture on the US educational system and the steps of the application process. The closing ceremony was accompanied by lottery drawing during which 20 people were awarded gift packages. The Educational Fair once again proved the importance of the Educational Center and its role in the distribution of information to Armenians about US study opportunities.
